PE

What is the intent of PE at Mandeville Primary School?

At Mandeville, we know that PE and sport can make a difference to the lives of young people. We believe all children deserve the right to a varied and engaging PE curriculum consisting of a wide range of sports, skills and knowledge.

Our desire is for children to enjoy, and value, being physically active and to understand the benefit of living healthy, active lives. We aim to provide opportunities for pupils to be physically active throughout the day as we know this contributes positively to their physical and emotional wellbeing. Our passion is for our children to develop a love of sport and physical activity which will remain with them throughout their life.

We provide opportunities to compete in sport and sporting activities which build resilience, confidence and perseverance for later life. Through working as part of a team during PE lessons, and the opportunity to take part in competitions, children also develop socially  through co-operation and teamwork, showing integrity and tolerance. Through these opportunities we also help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Mandeville pupils are offered a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities including lunchtime and after school clubs, residentials and opportunities to represent the school in tournaments, competitions and events.

How is PE organised at Mandeville Primary School?

PE is taught for two hours a week, usually in two weekly lessons. Pupils will be taught skills in games, athletics, dance and gymnastics. In addition to this, Mandeville pupils will attend swimming lessons for 60 minutes a week in the summer term of Year 3 and the autumn term of Year 5. There is an opportunity in the spring term for booster swimming lessons to ensure that all children are able to swim the required 25 metres by the time they leave Year 6.
