What is the intent of Design and Technology at Mandeville Primary School?
At Mandeville we believe that Design and Technology prepares our children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Our hands on approach when teaching this subject will encourage the children to become autonomous and creative problem solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. Through the study of Design and Technology they will combine practical skills alongside an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues. This will allow them to reflect on and evaluate present and past inventions, its uses and its impacts. We will strive to help all children become informed consumers and potential innovators.
How is Design and Technology organised at Mandeville Primary School?
Our curriculum covers all the statutory elements of the Design and Technology Programmes of Study. Each year group completes a Food and Nutrition and a Mechanisms unit. It is expected that the mechanism unit will encompass the strands of Design, Make and Evaluate. Textiles is taught in year two, four and six with structures being taught in years two, three and five.
